“Networking is overrated. Become first and foremost a person of value and the network will be available whenever you need it.” - Naval Ravikant
I left this one relatively empty on purpose, you’ll find nothing here really. Try to understand why you may have clicked on it…
Be yourself, be valuable, be nice and a decent human being, and you’ll develop a network of like-minded people.
I do not like any of these “networking guides” that are floating on the internet. They all make me cringe. Don’t take any of them seriously.
Just be authentic, there is only one of you. Do not try to impress people on points to make up for insecurities, that’s also super cringe. Just hustle and reach out to people for a chat. Be confident and well-intentioned. You will inevitably build a network this way.
Couple of pointers:
1) Do not be robotic
2) Do not be laser-focused on networking-oriented outcomes (it shows), just be opportunistic
3) Be respectful of people’s time
4) Show interest (only if you are genuinely interested)
5) Try and develop a personal touch, people’s game, less business-y, certain formal barriers to break
6) Please, please, be authentic!
7) Some people will not reply, that’s OK, move on, it’s not you (it’s them)
If you vehemently disagree with me on this one, then let’s network here on LinkedIn or at: mutiali@outlook.com
